Why Your Podcast is Attracting the Wrong People

APPLE PODCAST | SPOTIFY | OTHER PLATFORMS

If your podcast is bringing in listeners…

but none of them are turning into clients…

there’s a really good chance you’re attracting the wrong people.

And the tricky part?

👉 It doesn’t feel like anything is wrong.

When Everything Looks Like It’s Working… But Isn’t

You’re seeing:

  • downloads going up
  • people listening every week
  • maybe even messages saying they love your podcast

So naturally, you think everything is working.

But then you look at your business and realize:

👉 no new clients
👉 no email growth
👉 no real movement

That’s when it starts to feel confusing.

Your podcast is doing something

just not what you want it to do.

The Real Problem: You’re Attracting the Wrong People

This is one of the first things I look at when a podcast isn’t converting.

And most of the time, it comes down to content that is too broad

1. Your Content Is Too Broad

I get why this happens.

You want to help as many people as possible. Be discovered. Not exclude anyone

So your topics stay a little more general.

But what that creates is a podcast that feels “for everyone”… and converts no one

What This Looks Like

You might be talking about several different topics all in the same show.

And while each episode might be helpful…

Your listener isn’t thinking it’s exactly for them.

They’re thinking it’s interesting.

And those are very different.

Why This Stops People From Hiring You

Let’s say someone is searching for:

“how to get clients from my podcast”

But they land on an episode about staying consistent.

Helpful? Yes.

Relevant to their current problem? Not really.

So they listen – enjoy it – move on.

They don’t connect it to working with you.

2. You’re Not Speaking to Someone Ready to Act

This is another big one.

Your content might be sitting in the middle.

It’s not beginner enough for someone brand new, yet not specific enough for someone ready to act.

So who do you end up talking to?

👉 The people who are not making decisions at all

Why This Matters

The people who become clients are the ones thinking:

👉 “I need to fix this now.”

If your content doesn’t meet them in that moment…

They stay in learning mode instead of action mode.

A Simple Shift

Instead of asking:

“What would be helpful?”

Ask:  “What does someone need to hear when they’re ready to solve this?”

That’s the difference.

3. You’re Attracting Listeners Who Agree… But Don’t Act

This one is subtle.

And honestly, it can feel like things are going well.

Because these listeners love your content, nod along, and keep coming back.

They’re thinking it’s good, but they’re not thinking:

👉 “I need help with this.”

Why This Happens

Nothing in your episode creates urgency.

Nothing shows them the gap they’re in. Or what it’s costing them. Why they need to solve it now.

So they stay in the “This is interesting” side instead of moving to: “I need to do something about this”

The Shift You Need to Make

You don’t need more listeners.

You need the right listeners.

The ones who:

  • recognize the problem
  • feel the gap
  • want a solution

And your podcast needs to reflect that.

What to Look At in Your Own Podcast

Take a look at your recent episodes and ask:

  • Am I being too broad?
  • Am I speaking to someone ready to act?
  • Am I creating movement or just agreement?

Because when your podcast is aligned…

👉 the right people start to show up

You Probably Have More Than One “Leak”

It’s usually not just one issue.

You may have a few small breakdowns happening at once.

And that’s where things get frustrating because you know something’s off, but you can’t quite pinpoint it.

Final Thought

Once you fix why your podcast is attracting the wrong people…

Everything starts to click:

  • your content lands differently
  • your listeners engage differently
  • and your podcast starts bringing in clients

Next week, we’re going deeper into messaging…specifically how what you’re saying might not be landing the way you think.

Because sometimes it’s not what you’re saying.

It’s how it’s coming across.
