5 Podcast SEO Fixes That Make You Instantly More Discoverable

Your podcast might be packed with value, but if it’s not showing up in search, it’s not being heard. These five podcast SEO fixes will make your show easier to find, get more people pressing play, and ultimately grow your audience with the right listeners.

I break down the simple changes you can make today to boost your show’s visibility – no complicated tech required.

Why More Content Isn’t the Answer

Many podcasters think they just need to publish more episodes to grow. But without proper SEO foundations, you’re building on shaky ground.

You need your show to be more searchable. That doesn’t mean you need to work harder. That’s where these five podcast SEO fixes come in. Each one addresses a part of your podcast that either helps people find you or holds you back.

The 5 Podcast SEO Fixes That Help You Get Found

1. Fix Your Podcast Title

This is the most critical SEO factor. Your podcast title should include at least one or two searchable keywords that describe your topic, niche, or audience.

❌ Avoid: “The [Your Name] Show” (unless you’re already well-known)
✅ Try: “[Your Topic] | [Your Specialty] for [Your Audience]”

Tip: If you’re attached to your current title, add a subtitle using your podcast host’s settings with keywords that clarify what your show is about.

2. Fix Your Cover Art

Your podcast cover art needs to be clean, simple, and readable…even when it’s tiny. That’s the first thing people see when browsing search results.

  • Use large, bold, easy-to-read fonts.
  • Avoid cluttered or overly decorative designs.
  • Make sure your title is prominent, not hidden in swirls or script fonts.
  • Include a photo of yourself to boost connection and relatability.

Remember: Listeners do judge podcasts by their cover art. (at first anyway)

Here is a before and after of my clients’ cover art. When they came to me it was hard to see in the apps and the title of their show was used by a dozen other shows, therefore not findable. So with a few simple tweaks, we came out with:

3. Fix Your Show Description

Your show description is your pitch. It should immediately tell listeners what your show is about and why it’s for them—and it should be packed with relevant keywords that match what your audience is searching for.

  • Clearly explain who the podcast is for and what they’ll learn.
  • Use phrases your ideal listener would type into Apple or Spotify.
  • Don’t waste space. Every line should drive curiosity or clarity.

Include lines like:

This show helps [audience] with [problems] through [topics].
You’ll learn how to [benefit], [benefit], and [benefit].

4. Fix Your Episode Titles

Episode titles matter more than you think. They show up in search and are often the deciding factor in whether someone presses play.

  • Use clear, keyword-focused titles that describe exactly what the episode is about.
  • Avoid vague or “clever” titles that don’t mean anything without context.
  • For guest episodes, highlight the value, not just the guest’s name.

Example:
❌ “Healing with Jane Smith”
✅ “How to Heal Your Gut in 30 Days Naturally with Jane Smith” (I am not a gut health expert so not sure if this is a real thing 😂)

Specificity wins every time.

5. Fix Your Episode Descriptions

Episode descriptions help you rank in search and convince someone to listen once they’ve clicked through. They should:

  • Start with a 2-line hook that previews the episode’s value.
  • Include relevant keywords for that episode’s topic.
  • Act like a mini sales page that answers: “Why should I listen?”

Your first two lines often show up in podcast apps before the description is expanded, so make those count.

Better SEO = More Visibility + More Clients

Optimizing these five areas doesn’t just grow your listener numbers…it sets your podcast up to consistently attract the right audience. These fixes are how your show goes from invisible to impactful.

Here’s a quick recap of the 5 podcast SEO fixes:

  1. Podcast Title – Add 1–2 high-impact keywords.
  2. Cover Art – Make it clean, readable, and clear.
  3. Show Description – Use keyword-rich language that speaks directly to your listener.
  4. Episode Titles – Be specific, searchable, and value-focused.
  5. Episode Descriptions – Hook the reader fast and boost search rankings.
