Virtual assistants are juggling a long list of services—admin tasks, calendar management, social media, email support and if you’re one of them…you’re not alone. That’s what most of us were taught to do when starting out.
Offer everything = land more clients.
At least, that’s what we were told.
But here’s the truth:
👉 Offering everything is exactly what’s holding you back from earning more.
In fact, most virtual assistants never break past $5K months… not because they aren’t capable or hardworking, but because their business is built on being a generalist instead of a specialist.
When I started my freelancing journey, I followed the typical advice—become a virtual assistant and offer anything clients needed. From inbox cleanups to Pinterest pins, I said “yes” to it all.
But it didn’t take long for me to realize:
In short? I felt like a jack of all trades… but master of none. And that path was a fast track to burnout.
The turning point came when I gave myself permission to specialize. Just like doctors don’t treat everything—you wouldn’t go to a podiatrist for heart problems—business owners need specialists, too.
When you niche down:
It’s focused. It’s scalable. And it’s so much less stressful.
I wasn’t a long-time VA before I niched down. I had one short-term VA client before I realized: this wasn’t the path for me.
What changed everything? Podcast management.
Once I committed to podcast management, my business took off. Within my first year, I was making more than I ever did in a full year of teaching—and I was working fewer hours.
I became the go-to person for podcast support. My offers were clear. Clients started referring me. And yes, I got paid to listen to podcasts I genuinely enjoyed.
If you’re feeling stuck in your VA business and wondering why it’s not growing the way you hoped… it might be time to niche down.
Ask yourself:
You don’t have to figure it out overnight. But clarity comes so much faster when you choose one thing to focus on.
Niching down might feel scary at first – but in my experience, it’s the most sustainable way to grow a profitable, burnout-free business.
And if you’re thinking podcast management might be your thing but you’re not sure what services podcast managers actually offer…
